Abdulsalam Abujebel (read more about Abdi here and here), has opened Oasis Jimma Juice Bar right in our neighborhood at 1620 Amsterdam Avenue, (between 139th & 140th Streets). Now we have two places to help us improve our health! Feel like a short walk? Head up the 139th Street hill to Amsterdam Avenue, turn left, and Oasis Jimma is mid-block. Feel like a longer walk? Walk downhill this time on Broadway to Oasis Jimma at 3163 (just beyond 125th Street, between Tiemann Place and LaSalle Street). At both locations you’ll find nourishing healthy food and drink to put into your body, and a place for community-minded people to connect with each other.
“At OASIS Jimma, Our Mission Extends Beyond Just Serving Refreshing Beverages . . .From The Heart Of Harlem Since 2012, We’ve Aimed Not Just To Satisfy Taste Buds, But To Foster Community Connections, Turning Friends Into Family.”
Abdi has been working for and within our community for over a decade. He opened the Oasis Powerhouse right on our block back in 2017 as a community center. We fondly remember the fun and sharing that went on there with free events to build knowledge; and free or low-cost classes in cooking, dance, music, comedy, yoga, martial arts, meditation, fitness and more. The transition of that oasis is a reminder that nothing lasts forever, and that community empowerment requires community building and support. Community building is on all of us, and Abdi is proof that we each can do something. We just need to start.
