In Case You Missed It:

Models doing final walk with designer, Brenda Brunson-Bey

The Wearable Art Show that took place on Saturday, 2/24/24 was a perfect ending to Black History Month.  Several of our neighbors attended the small gathering at the Harlem State Office Building on West 125th Street which featured music by Craig Harris & Tailgaters Tales, a jazz band that kept the vibe very cool.  The program featured a fashion show with creations from Harlem designer Brenda Brunson-Bey’s Tribal Truths Collection, celebrated the legendary Grandassa Models, and gave flowers to 90 year old June Terry, the first Black woman to work as a banking financial analyst, and the first Black department store salesperson in 1957. Terry worked as factory worker, a tailor and as a licensed practical nurse.  An FIT graduate, Terry designed African clothing worn by celebrities like Lena Horne, and created costumes.  In addition to this full life, she stays active by dancing and attending local events, still creates clothing, teaches seniors to make jewelry, sewing and other creative explorations.
