Where’s the Fire? Not In My Apartment

By Mitch B.

My 10:00 am appointment was preceded by an hour with a polite and friendly phone call assuring me that they’d be knocking at my apartment door at just about 10:00. By 10:25 I had smoke/carbon monoxide alarms neatly installed in the hallway and both bedrooms. “These are good for ten years. You never have to change the battery. Have a nice day.” With that the two firefighters were on their way to the next apartment to make it safe as well. They were polite, efficient, neat and friendly.

We are living in times that are increasingly stressful for many of us. Financial, social, health, political and other challenges are in no short order. It is nice when something is available to us to ease our lives in some way – big or small. The free installation of life saving smoke/carbon monoxide alarms is one such thing. Whatever our difficulties and differences, there are things out there to make everyone’s lives just a little bit better. As we find these things, I hope we continue to share with our neighbors, and I hope that management and the board continue to facilitate beneficial events and programs for our RVT community.

Thank you to fellow cooperator Shannon Richards, the RVT board, Prestige Management, the FDNY and the American Red Cross for making this available to all of us at River View Towers.
