Judith Thames also known as “Little Judy”, arrived to RVT in 1975 when her mother moved in with her grandmother. A proud alumna of SUNY College at Fredonia, she has seamlessly blended her educational background with a successful career in health administration and community organization. She has worked at Columbia University Medical Center since the early 2000’s. She works in Orthopedic Surgery Sports Medicine and previously worked in the departments of Neurosurgery and Anesthesia.
She has been a County Committee Member for almost two years, and works at the election polls every chance she gets along side her sister and mother. She has a strong belief in bringing folk together to create a positive vibe and, maintain a safe community for her family and friends.
Little Judy has three children who she has raised here and continues to exemplify a harmonious balance between family, community, and professional accomplishments. In addition to her roles as a devoted mother and accomplished healthcare administrator, she is fueled by a passion for music and singing. She has memories of singing some “oldies but goodies” with her grandmother when she was in Kindergarten (which she attended school up the Hill, P.S. 192 on 138th Street). She tries to insert joy, humor and music harmoniously into her professional life with a quote to lighten the mood, or break the ice.
Over the years at different stages of development at RVT, Judith has joined several of the committees, attended meetings, and participated in Board Elections. She has enjoyed cheering on our children and their extended family members at the annual Halloween parties, and sending photos to their parents. She is currently on the Committee of Concern and enjoys coming up with fun ideas for fund raising as well as bringing us together to build more human connections between fellow neighbors – outside of our individual floors.
Judith believes it important and vital to celebrate our youth within our RVT Collective with more group meetings, like game night, and down the road maybe having youth represented on the COC, or the Board to help involve them on a regular basis. River View is ever changing but living among this community as an extended family, that keeps eyes out for her and children’s safety is something that has always existed. She continues to strive to improve on community engagement, awareness of mental health issues, and artistic expression. Judith believes in building relationships and bridges between the community, health and music.
